It sounds amazing to be able to wear activewear everyday, but is it possible to look pulled together at the same time? I learned so much by creating this post and I wanted to share it with you! Some of the latest styles are so casually chic that you can pull off a great look and still be comfortable! Check out ways to add pieces from your wardrobe to create outfits with athleisure. Read on for some no sweat style tips and even ways to keep your activewear looking great through lots of wash cycles.
The best reason to check out new athleisure styles might be fit. Once you find the types of tops and bottoms that work for you, activewear tends to fit and move with you more so than the usual casual clothes. Here’s the best part, it’s not just leggings, so if you prefer a more relaxed fit you can have it. What are your favorite styles and what looks best on you? How to Find Athleisure that Fits You!
It’s beyond the size chart right? For me a slightly heavier fabric hides what I want to hide. If you are tall and thin you might find a straight or wide leg style to be perfect.
Find the Best Joggers and Activewear Pants
Finding the pant style that fits you best is the way to begin. The shapes you like best will be similar to a regular pant. Knowing your best rise and length can make a big difference. The rise comes in to play especially if you are long or short waisted.
Find a pant that flatters you and measure from the seam at the inside of the leg down to the hem. Think of this as a guide when you pick an inseam in your activewear pant too. For instance I like a longer inseam even though I’m 5’3. So my joggers look best a little longer as opposed to cropped. If a style seems wrong to you walk away. Or click away:) In other words, if the waist doesn’t fit but the hip does, chances are sizing up won’t fix the problem.
Don’t Make it Personal
Don’t start thinking bad things about your shape when a pant doesn’t fit. Women come in so many shapes and companies are trying to accommodate all of us! Realize that pair of pants is meant to fit someone else. Getting the right fit in your athletic wear is important. I like to check the reviews for size tips, but I look for specific comments that mention height and weight. Not just a general size up or size down comment.
This is especially true for athleisure. If possible, head to your favorite activewear store and try on a few pant styles. Consider mid rise and high rise styles as well as flare or straight leg. Athleisure pants are comfortable so when you find one that works with your shape they can take the place of a less comfortable pant. Usually they travel well too and don’t require ironing.
Take note of the weight of fabric that works and the cut and length you like best. Again, it’s way beyond leggings now. Take time to look around a little. This way you can come home and order what works for you in the size and colors you want.
Take a minute to look at your reflection and see if the style flatters you or does not. Choose the best and note the type of top would work best with your pant. Not to repeat myself, but take a picture, you will see what works! When you find the right style of athleisure pant it might make you want to wear activewear every day!
Tips for Styling Athleisure
Check the fit and combine pieces as you plan on wearing them. I would definitely suggest taking some pictures of your outfits so you can get an objective look at what you like and if there are things you don’t like. Believe me I learned a lot by seeing the pieces in a photo, I realized there were some pieces in my closet that I like using together with my athleisure to make everyday outfits.
Everyday Activewear Outfit Tips
- Match a bag to your shoes or colorful sneakers.
- Balance length of your top to follow the rule of thirds if possible.
- Use a higher waist pant if you want a cropped top but don’t want to show your midriff.
- Keep shoes clean and fresh looking and change out sneakers for a nice sandal for a dressier look
- Use a colorful scarf in your hair to give a casual chic look.
- Use jewelry to bring your look from too casual to pulled together.
- Pick a dress in your best shape and pair it with a cute jacket.
- When your hair and makeup look polished you can look great and wear activewear every day. Somehow it looks more intentional.
- Grab a blouse or top to go with your athletic pant.

This dark grey pair is a nice break from the usual black and has a high waist. I paired them with a blouse and comfortable heel to dress up the pant.
How to Style Your Activewear to Wear Everyday
Some styles can flatter a more petite shape, while others are great on a taller person. There are no rules, just easier ways to be sure you will look your best. For example, if you are petite, try a more fitted pant with a cropped hoodie (amazing cream color!) It’s a great look for running errands or hanging out a soccer game or coffee shop.
For a more relaxed wide leg look try this pair in a beautiful taupe and other neutral colors. Cute paired with a fitted top or jacket for running around town.
For an everyday athleisure look check out this pullover and pant. Such an easy look to put on repeat.
Athleisure Capsule Wardrobe
Love the hoodies and jackets in athleisure styles? Make sure to find your best shape in a tee shirt too so that you can layer. On a recent trip, I had a long sleeve top that layered perfectly under my sweatshirts and kept the wind away, similar to this one with a nice relaxed fit. If you have main pieces in neutrals, you can easily mix in some accent colors. Especially with Lululemon. Where you can add a belt bag or top in a color you love to off white or deeper neutral outfits. Try to keep in mind your main activities and which pieces you need to make a full outfit.
How to Wash Lululemon Clothes
Once you have your favorite pieces here are some instructions for caring for them. Lululemon lists these care instructions on their website, I had to look around a little to find them so I’m sharing them here. When you wear activewear everyday it will last so much longer with good care.
First, check the care label for any specific instructions for each individual piece. Be sure to wash your gear in cold water and lay flat to dry or check the care label to see if that garment can be put in the dryer on low.
Next, wash any bright colors alone before wearing. Keep colors similar in subsequent washes. If you have wet bright pieces, keep them away from other fabrics. Fabric softener is not your friend with most of your activewear. If you forget and wash sweat-wicking gear with fabric softener, just wash it again without it and it should return to normal.
When you sort your load of laundry turn your activewear inside out and wash it with other similar fabrics. Avoid washing cotton towels and hoodies with your Luon fabric. They can have fluff that will attach to your smooth synthetic fabrics. Also keep jeans, jackets and anything with velcro in a separate load to best care for your athleisure in the wash.
Care for Sports Bras
Some activewear companies suggest removing pads and washing them by hand then replacing them after washing. This would be an especially good idea in the case of thinner fabric. I like to wash all my bras in a lingerie bag so that I can be sure to keep them out of the dryer when its time to switch the load.
Care for Scuba Hoodies
The scuba hoodie is one of my favorites. They can last a long time if you care for them well. Lululemon suggests washing them in cold water with other cottons and then hanging to air dry or drying on low.
Wear Activewear Every Day
What could be better than having all the colors, the fit, the variety of styles and the comfort of activewear. Why not try to find some pieces that will make your wardrobe work even harder.
